Fantasy Replacements – Week 9

The purpose of this article is to bring you a full starting roster based on players owned in less than 40% of leagues on NFL.com. The idea being that no matter what injury, bye week, or other circumstance heads your way you are able to get a usable replacement in your roster. The goal is for this roster to get above 100 points. Can we do it?

QB- Derek Carr (24.2% owned) Having thrown at least 2 touchdown passes 4 of this last 5 games and coming off and nice 3 TDs performance against the Texans, Carr is set-up nicely to find success against the 26th ranked pass defense in the Detroit Lions. Projection: 3 touchdowns, 2 ints, 304 yards.

RB- Jaylen Samuels (38.3% owned) Samuels coming off an injury is always a risk but with James Conner DNP in practice and trending the wrong direction, JS has decent fantasy upside if Conner should be sidelined. Projection: 34 rushing yards. 61 receiving yards.

RB- Ty Johnson (39.9% owned) If by some chance Ty Johnson is back on your waiver, now is a great time to go pick him up. If nothing more than a bye week flyer, Johnson as potential to lead the Lions backfield through the finale of the fantasy football season. Projection: 88 rushing yards, 14 receiving yards, 1 touchdown.

WR- Dionte Johnson (18.1% owned) Coming off a 7 target and a touchdown against Miami, look for similar production in what could be a shootout with the Colts. He has now scored touchdowns in 3 of his last 5 games. We cannot overlook how bad Mason Rudolph has looked but with a high level of snaps and target share, Dionte Johnson is this week pick. Prediction: 75 yards, 1 Touchdown

WR- Hunter Renfrow (0.4% owned) Looking to have found his groove with David Carr and going up against the 32nd ranked pass defense, Renfrow should be worth a flyer this week. Projection: 111 yards, 1 touchdown

TE- Jonnu Smith (6.7% owned) Welcome to those who are either A. lucky enough to have a good TE and looking for a bye week replacement or B. Like most don’t have one of the 3 consistent top TEd and have grown frustrated. Rest assured, no confidence will be found here in the under 40% owned TE category. This week we are going to suggest riding the hot hand of Jonnu Smith. With Delanie Walker hampered with an ankle injury Smith accounted for 7 targets last week and a TD. Predictions: 51 yards, 1 touchdown

Flex- Ronald Jones Jr. (34.9% owned) Fire Jones up with confidence this week. Consistently leading the TB backfield in snaps and touches he is always a threat to vulture an Evans or Godwin touchdown. If Winston can avoid throwing 4 1st half interceptions expect decent things out of Jones this week. 91 rushing yards. 43 receiving yards, 1 touchdown.

Kicker – Brett Maher (29.0% owned) Dallas coming off a bye week playing a bottom Tier Giants squad. Maher is set-up beautifully to delivery fantasy owner’s much joy on Monday evening. Prediction: 4 Xp, 1 fg 50+, 1 fg 30+

Defense- Jets (24% owned) Say it with me, “ALWAYS START THE DEFENSE PLAYING THE DOLPHINS… ALWAYS.” This holds true with the Jets next in line to play the hapless Miami Squad. Sure Fitzpatrick has made the offense slightly better AND the Jets are still the Jets after offloading a few pieces at the deadline, stay confident that Miami is in fact trying to lose every game. Prediction: 17 points allowed, 4 sacks, 2 ints, 1 fumble, 1 TD
