Green Bay Backfield

Who: Jamaal Williams | Aaron Jones | Ty Montgomery

What: A three sided coin that when flipped, will roll out the door, out of sight, and you’ll have no idea what happened to it.

Jamaal Williams is leading the Pack for now, but his efficiency is, well, not efficient. Williams’ YPCatch finished at 10.5, and he looked great on some of those catches, but he’s inconsistent and with Montgomery looming nothing is certain on 3rd down or in passing formations. Let me be clear, I am not a Jamaal Williams fan – in his his NFL debut looked as slow as a Windows 95’ streaming Netflix while sipping ketamine. To his credit, he had some monster moments down the stretch with Aaron Jones out, but his success was due mainly to lack of competition and his overall numbers were never rarely impressive. He can throw down a mean pass block though, so with Aarom Rodgers leading the Pack, that might be enough to stay on the field. He’ll start the year as the #1 but I’m surprised if he keeps that roll barring an increase in PED’s or complete mental rewiring.

Aaron Jones will miss the first two games of the season due to cannabis use. The second year back was the most efficient runner last season, and certainly passed the eye test, but a deep backfield, not starting the year as the #1, and this team still lead by Aaron Rodgers will make it tough for Aaron Jones to hold significant value barring injury. He’s my favorite to handle the majority of touches come week 5, but that might not amount to much.

Ty Montgomery was moved to RB last season and was quickly injured. His 3.8 YPC is below average, but it was still more than the current #1 in Jamaal Williams (3.7). He has great hands, a good burst, and the upside to be the best value pick in this committee.

Where: Jamaal Williams ADP: 93 Aaron Jones ADP: 106 Ty Montgomery ADP: 117

Fortunately there is not a lot of risk grabbing any of these guys at their current ADP, maybe the only thing fortunate about it.

When: First two games will give Jamaal Williams the advantage. Jones will be out and Montgomery will have to wait for an opportunity.

Jones returns week 3 and will be looked to immediately if the ground game starts the season slow.

Montgomery will be a threat all season. He’s being looked at as a weapon, but given his size and skill set don’t be surprised if he proves to be the most productive committee member.

Why: You know why.
